About ConnCAN 

Founded in 2005, ConnCAN has been instrumental in creating the political conditions and public will for common sense education policy changes to be implemented across the state of Connecticut. Through this work, ConnCAN has emerged as a leading voice for education 

reform, built a base of thousands of supporters across the state and secured dozens of policy wins including: the adoption of rigorous education standards, more flexibility to recruit great new teachers and a 50-percent increase in the number of students enrolled in public charter schools. 

About 50CAN 

ConnCAN is a branch of 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now, a nonprofit organization that works at the local level to advocate for a high-quality education for all kids, regardless of their address. 50CAN helps develop local education leaders by providing them with the research, tools and ideas needed to create learning environments that best meet every child’s needs. It operates campaigns in 11 states, supports affiliates in three additional states, has a national headquarters in Washington, D.C., and is led by CEO and Founder Marc Porter Magee. 

Bilingual Organizer Job Duties 

  • Lead ConnCAN’s parent fellow program by serving as manager of current participants and program alumni 
  • Build strong relationships with parents by conducting one-on-one meetings and community conversations about education 
  • Recruit parents into the ConnCAN network 
  • Support campaign work through individual and group coaching in advocacy, education policy and leadership development 
  • Use ConnCAN's curriculum to deliver formal trainings, with assistance from ConnCAN’s staff 
  • Maintain and grow ConnCAN’s data and relationship tracking database Collect and analyze data to evaluate trainings and provide/recommend improvements
  • Develop and manage relationships with a broad base of constituents and build coalition of organization’s parent leader campaign  
  • Assist ConnCAN team with special projects, as needed 
  • This position will be required to work occasional nights and weekends Remote work: this position will have 40% of remote and 60% of in-person work, approximately 

Bilingual Organizer Qualifications 

  • 1-2 years of experience successfully building relationships in a role such as a community/parent/adult organizer (internship experience inclusive) 
  • Demonstrated experience participating in advocacy work or campaigns Interest in and/or experience with Connecticut’s education system 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Oral and written proficiency in Spanish required 
  • 100% follow-through: No dropped balls policy. Stay on top of specific tasks and consistently meet deadlines 
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency in MS Office suite, Google Suite
