50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now, a nonprofit organization that works at the local level to advocate for a high-quality education for all kids, regardless of their address. We develop local education leaders by providing them with the research, tools and ideas needed to create learning environments that best meet every child’s needs. 50CAN operates campaigns in Connecticut, Delaware, Denver, Georgia, Hawaii, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Tennessee and is led by CEO & Founder Marc Porter Magee.


Finance Associate Overview


As a key member of the national team, the Finance Associate is responsible for maintaining accurate financial information, ensuring timely payments to partners and vendors, and facilitating financial, tax and lobbying compliance functions for 50CAN’s entire network. This position reports directly to the Finance Director.



Key responsibilities include:


  • Manage the day-to-day bookkeeping for the organization
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Facilitate the accounts payable and billing process which includes credit cards, expense reimbursements, and employee training on the Concur system
  • Process and book payroll
  • Participate in the annual budget process
  • Field requests from employees and vendors about payroll and payables
  • Assist in communications with our auditors
  • Participate in special projects as needed


Key Skills, Abilities and Experiences


  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field (strongly preferred)
  • 1 year work experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to both follow and improve accounting processes in a fast-paced environment with multiple and varied assignments
  • Unwavering attention to detail, ownership of work, and strong organization skills
  • Ability to communicate timely and effectively with multiple parties including vendors, Executive Directors, and the Executive Team
  • Knowledge of Excel (required)
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks, Concur and/or prior non-profit experience (preferred)
  • Commitment to 50CAN’s mission
  • Sense of humor, strong work ethic, “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done

Position is remote and operates on the East Coast time zone. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. 50CAN offers a comprehensive benefits package.
