50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now, a nonprofit organization that works at the local level to advocate for a high-quality education for all kids, regardless of their address. We develop local education leaders by providing them with the research, tools and ideas needed to create learning environments that best meet every child’s needs. 50CAN operates campaigns in Connecticut, Delaware, Denver, Georgia, Hawaii, Miami, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Richmond and Tennessee and is led by CEO & Founder Marc Porter Magee.

As a key member of the national team, the Policy Manager is responsible for helping the executive team analyze national trends in education policy-making while creating a new policy framework for a network of advocates across the country. This position reports directly to the Executive Vice President.
Monitor and document national trends in education policy-making
Compile and analyze quantitative and qualitative information in support of state and local education advocacy campaigns
Work with the Executive Team to identify emerging policy ideas and translate them into actionable legislative frameworks
Understand the policy objectives and efforts of a variety of philanthropic and advocacy groups
Assist in drafting campaign documents, including research reports, memos, one-pagers, fact sheets, testimony, talking points and other materials to support state and local policy goals
Support ad hoc research requests from state and national teams by collecting and analyzing data and fact-checking research products
Attend policy and research events and webinars held by partner organizations in the education sector
Key Skills, Abilities and Experiences
Minimum two years of experience with quantitative and qualitative research analysis
Commitment to 50CAN’s mission and core values (“PORCH”): plussing it, optimism, relentlessness, candor and humility
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Skill and experience in writing and editing advocacy papers and reports
Comfortable working in an iterative environment with high degrees of ambiguity
Willingness to challenge prior policy assumptions or efforts.

Willingness to work across and through political and partisan divisions.
Strength in gathering and analyzing information from various sources to make sound, logical conclusions.
